College advice for adults - without the sales pitch

Hello students,
I won't bore you with the usual bio. Instead, I'll talk about where I'm coming from and why I created this Web site. I'm a professional academic advising administrator at a major public university. I've seen a lot of students crying for joy as they walk across the stage to finally achieve their dream of earning a college degree.
Sadly, I've also met many adult students who just can't seem to finish. They make mistakes that add months or even years to their educational journey.
Unfortunately, too many adult students don't do their homework before choosing a college, so they get off to a rocky start.
The confusing campus culture, the surprising amount of bureaucracy, and even the little things like where to buy books - it can all be overwhelming if you're completely new to the college scene. Sadly, lots of returning adult learners quit after a couple of semesters, dreams deferred again.
I don't want that to happen to you, so I created this Web site.

"The objective of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives."
Good academic advisors are educators who prepare their students (both the young and the young at heart) to educate themselves. I hope to prepare you for success by teaching you how to evaluate online degree programs, choose appropriate courses, and improve your study skills. We'll talk about other issues too.
Above all, be encouraged: No matter where you are in life, it's never too late to start college, or to finish your degree. (And don't stop learning once you do.) Let's see what we can accomplish together!
Best regards,
Harold
P.S. Did I mention that I'm a working adult graduate student, just like I hope you will soon be? I guess you could say I try to walk my talk. I can empathize with whatever fear, uncertainty, or doubt you may be feeling.
